Established
in 1948 as a consolidated system, the Clear Creek Independent School
District is widely recognized for its forward-looking educational
techniques and diverse academic programs. Holding to the guiding
principal that the welfare of the child is of utmost importance,
the district strives to provide curriculum and facilities to accommodate
the various aptitudes and educational needs of students from many
backgrounds.
To
meet this goal, educational programs are designed to help all students
develop to their maximum potential. The district fosters a solid
elementary program, a broad secondary curriculum, specialized instruction
for exceptional children, and challenges for the gifted and talented.
The Clear Creek School District is backed by strong community support
in its efforts to provide the type of quality education that will
help students become creditable and well adjusted citizens.
Boundaries
of C.C.I.S.D. embrace 120 square miles in southern Harris County
and northern Galveston County, and serve a population approaching
175,000 citizens. At one time, the community was primarily job-oriented
toward the nation's aerospace program. In recent years, the area
has become increasingly diversified with many residents employed
in the Bayport Industrial complex and others in the ever-growing
commercial establishments.
The
district has grown from a rural community with four small schools
and an enrollment of less than 1,000 students to a suburban district
with 27 modern neighborhood schools.
The
regular instructional program is enhanced by extra-curricular activities,
including field trips and interscholastic competition. At the elementary
levels, special music and physical education teachers are part of
each school staff. Certified librarians and nurses are on duty in
all schools.
At
the secondary levels, vocational education and college preparation
courses are available. Programs and services are available for the
handicapped, ages three through twenty-one, as well as for the gifted
and talented students of the district. The school program also includes
guidance counselors and diagnosticians.
STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
At
the national level, students in C.C.I.S.D. demonstrate above average
learning. Using the recently formed Stanford Achievement Test, students
scored above the mean of 50 at each grade level and in every subject
measured. Results of this annual test indicate that students perform
as much as 28 points above average (an average score of 78 in the
first grade writing), as compared to the normal group score of 50.
Students
in the C.C.I.S.D. always perform well above the state average on
required Texas. Assessment of Academic Skills (TAAS) and on the
Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and American college Testing (ACT)
college entrance examinations.
Students
in C.C.I.S.D. continue to exceed expected educational performance
standards as evidenced by the large percentage (86.3%) of high school
graduates who attend colleges and universities. This performance
is further emphasized by the large numbers of students who excel
in state and national contests. The numerous awards earned by Clear
Creek students include recognition in academic, athletic and extracurricular
activities.
